Use of inhaled sevoflurane in adult survivors of cardiac arrest

چکیده
Introduction Use of inhalation anesthetic sevoflurane has some potential advantages over intravenous sedation in adult survivors of cardiac arrest. Wake-up times are shorter compared to intravenous sedation, neurologic assessment could potentially be performed sooner and there are reports of possible protection against ischaemicreperfusion injury. There are no prospective studies or guidelines regarding use of sevoflurane in this setting.

Initial documented rhythm as a predictor of survivalto-discharge rate after in-hospital cardiac arrest in a tertiary care referral institute, South India: an observational study
Objective: Survival-to-discharge rates following in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) patients remain significantly low. The use of initial documented cardiac rhythm as predictor of Survival-to-discharge is still unclear. This study aimed to assess whether the initial documented rhythm can be used as a predictor of survival-to-discharge following IHCA in an emergency department of the tertiary car...
متن کاملEfficacy of inhaled HYdrogen on neurological outcome following BRain Ischemia During post-cardiac arrest care (HYBRID II trial): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND Hydrogen gas inhalation (HI) improved survival and neurological outcomes in an animal model of post-cardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS). The feasibility and safety of HI for patients with PCAS was confirmed in a pilot study. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of HI for patients with PCAS. METHODS/DESIGN The efficacy of inhaled HYdrogen on neurological outcome follow...
متن کاملEffect of Inhaled Xenon on Cerebral White Matter Damage in Comatose Survivors of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
IMPORTANCE Evidence from preclinical models indicates that xenon gas can prevent the development of cerebral damage after acute global hypoxic-ischemic brain injury but, thus far, these putative neuroprotective properties have not been reported in human studies. OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of inhaled xenon on ischemic white matter damage assessed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ...
متن کاملNeurological outcome of prolonged coma survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
Nine adult survivors of out-of-hospital presumed cardiogenic cardiac arrest, who remained unresponsive for longer than their third hospital day and who eventually were discharged from the acute care hospital, are reported. Their neurological outcome fell into three distinct categories: (a) a persistent vegetative state, (b) able to follow some simple commands but requiring total nursing care, a...
متن کاملFunctional outcomes and quality of life of young adults who survive out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
BACKGROUND Evaluating the quality of life of young adult survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is important as they are likely to have a longer life expectancy than older patients. The aim of this study was to assess their functional and quality of life outcomes. METHODOLOGY The Victorian Ambulance Cardiac Arrest Registry records were used to identify survivors of OHCA that occur...
